Studies, Psychotherapy and Counseling U.K. Division, Interfaith Seminary)

support role. Clients may use my Professor or Dr titles should they wish
to. We adhere to the National Occupational Standards for Spiritual
Healing).

Pastoral and
Spiritual issues
This is in ADDITION to my qualifications as
a secular counsellor and psychotherapist. My initial analysis training
included parapsychology training.
The awards in this section are not particularly relevant unless your
issues are faith related.
I
am duty bound to point out that the Professorship and PhD I was
awarded are only relevant
to pastoral work since they are in pastoral counselling and healing
issues. These are therefore NOT qualifications in mainstream therapy and
no claim is made that they are. The PhD is an earned religious
qualification under US Law and the Professorship involved an unpaid
support role
in therapy related theology based subjects.
-
As well as having completed additional modality training
as part of my ongoing professional development (spiritual counselling,
spiritual psychotherapy, Theotherapy) I have worked extensively in a
multi-faith context.
-
I have added to my core diploma in hypnosis and
parapsychology with a commitment to multi-faith counselling and healing.
-
I
am an ordained multi-faith minister with a number of multi-faith groups, and have an MA and a Doctorate (PhD) from the
Interfaith Seminary of the Church of Seven Planes. Although these are
legally classed as honourary in the UK, they both required real thesis submissions
and assessment totalling four overall thesis submissions and declarations
of context. Indeed I later won a clinical award of excellence for one of
the personal development programmes written as just one part of my
PhD evidence submission. In the USA they are recognised as earned Divinity awards. The
work submitted represented many years of academic and vocational
work and research.
-
My Professorship required the submission of further evidence (work
dating back to 1993) and my commitment
to write, examine and assess ongoing course material and student
submissions. I am also a registered Conversations with God resource. It
involved and required actual support work as well as being awarded
on merit.
-
Please note that being ordained and having the Rev or Revd
title is not a qualification. Being ordained is a commitment and
acknowledgement of faith that is very relevant in faith related therapy
work. It should not however be considered a "qualification"
apart from in the sense of spiritual commitment. It is a job title, not a
qualification.
-
We adhere to the National
Occupational Standards for Spiritual Healing.
There are no nationally accredited
standards for multi faith pastoral counselling at present, although
therapists should have awards for each method used in a secular sense,
e.g. counselling and psychotherapy (see above). However Social work and
Mental health courses provide a broad foundation including specific
accredited training on respecting individual cultural and spiritual
identities.
Related Nationally accredited standards:
Earned:
Social Work Competence in Practice ASET Level 4.
Mental Health & Social Work ASET Level
4
Underway:
Level III ASET grief and Bereavement.
Scheduled:
Level IV ASET Clinical Counselling.
ASET IV Hypnotherapy accredited Counselling Module
ASET Level 3 Psychotherapy module on Spirituality.
Religious and honorary awards.
The following information is repeated in order to ensure complete
clarity.
I
(Paul) rarely use my PhD , Professorship or ministerial titles. This is
because they are only relevant to pastoral work. They are occasionally
mentioned because of my pastoral and faith healing work and multi-faith
counselling work, in which areas they are of some relevance. I
am duty bound to point out that my Professorship and PhD are
only relevant to pastoral work since they are in pastoral counselling
and healing issues. These are therefore NOT qualifications in mainstream
therapy and no claim is made that they are. The PhD is an earned
religious qualification under US Law and the Professorship entailed unpaid support role in therapy related theology based
subjects. In the same way Denise rarely uses her purely
honorary DD doctorate title or ministerial title. They are again only relevant
to faith work. We make no claim to have doctorates in any other regard.
We are also NOT medical doctors.
National standards, Codes of practice
- I adhere to the professional codes of conduct and
ethics of the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health ( of which I am
a Fellow).
-
I adhere to the standards of practice laid down in the TDLB standards of
the Level IV NVQ in Training and Development.
- I also adhere to the National Occupational Standards
for Hypnotherapy laid down in the UK.
- I also adhere to the National Occupational Standards
for Counselling laid down in the UK.
- In social care work I adhere to the National
Code
of Practice for Social Service Workers, except for where a conflict exists with
primary codes of ethics.
- There
are MANY more areas in which we adhere to National
Occupational Standards! And the number of areas is growing as we
ensure compliance. Click HERE
for more.
- In the specific area of pastoral work I also adhere to the multi-faith commitment of
multi faith ministries to respect all faiths equally. Faith is only
discussed in context if appropriate. No imposition of any faith is ever
made whatsoever.
- I maintain professional registrations, and am an Advisory Board member of the National UK
Therapists Register.
- I am a listed assessor for both NVQ Training and
Development awards and NVQ advice and Guidance awards.
- I am committed to various ASET nationally
accredited courses that have recently become available.
Supervision and NVQ Assessment
- I am also an accredited NVQ assessor for the Advice and Guidance
awards, and training and development awards for a leading training company.
- I am additionally an accredited hypnotherapy trainer
in my own right with the Professional Board of Hypnotherapy.
Back up and support
I have a network of professionals to provide me with
assistance, supervision, advice and support in practice. I also have a
number of professionals with specialties to advise on deeper issues
relating to the many therapies provided should I need to consult
colleagues. I am committed to ongoing professional development and
updates. Indeed I am currently keeping two courses running at any one
time, at least one of which is ASET accredited.
